ShadeCast · last updated September 29, 2026
ShadeCast does not collect, store, or share personal information. There are no accounts, no sign-in, no analytics SDKs, no advertising identifiers, and no tracking across apps or websites.
What stays on your device
The stadium you choose, the game date and kickoff time you set, and any seat you tap are used only to draw the view and compute a shade timeline on your device. They are not transmitted to us and not saved off-device.
The app keeps a few things on your device so it works offline and does not re-download: the stadium models you have opened (stadium geometry, stored in the app's browser storage, IndexedDB), the list of stadiums, and a "don't show this hint again" setting if you choose it. None of it is about you, and none of it is sent anywhere. The 3D viewer (CesiumJS) is built into the app; nothing is loaded from its maker's servers.
What leaves your device
To draw the 3D stadium view, the app requests map imagery through a ShadeCast server, which forwards the request to Google's Map Tiles API. Those requests contain the map area being viewed — not your identity, your location, or your seat selection. We keep no per-user logs of them. Google's handling of the requests it receives is governed by the Google Privacy Policy.
Shade timelines are computed on your device from stadium models built from public-domain lidar data (USGS, or an equivalent public source named in our notes). That computation never leaves your phone.
Ticket links and commissions
ShadeCast may show a ticket link below the shade answer, for example "Opens StubHub · we earn a commission". ShadeCast earns a commission on tickets bought through those links, in the app and on this site. The links appear below the shade answer and never change it. A link opens the partner's own page in your browser (or a browser view inside the app); the partner's handling of your visit is governed by its own privacy policy.
No information about you is sent with a link. The link is the partner's page for that game or stadium and carries nothing from us about you, your seat or your device. When you tap one, the app also sends our server a short anonymous count — which stadium's ticket link was tapped — that is added to a daily total. It carries no identifier, and we do not store your IP address or any other detail about the tap.
Game-day gear links (Amazon)
As an Amazon Associate, DAPS, LLC earns from qualifying purchases.
When the forecast for your game calls for it (a long stretch of sun, heat, rain or cold at the seat you picked), ShadeCast may show a gear link below the shade answer, for example a brimmed hat or hand warmers. Each link says, in the link itself, "Opens Amazon · we earn a commission". It opens Amazon in your device's own browser or the Amazon app, never inside ShadeCast; Amazon's handling of your visit is governed by Amazon's privacy notice. The link carries our associate tag and nothing about you. As with ticket links, a tap sends our server only an anonymous count (which stadium's gear link was tapped), with no identifier, and the shade answer is computed the same way whether or not a link is shown.
Location
ShadeCast does not request or use your device location.
Children
The app collects no personal information from anyone, including children under 13.
Purchases
In-app purchases are handled entirely by the store you bought from — Apple's App Store on iPhone, Google Play on Android. We never see your payment details.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new date.
